Hi. My name is Brent. I am an innovative education technology leader with expertise driving the development of cutting-edge education technology for preschool through high school, and corporate education curriculum. I have broad experience including the management of large-scale study applications and administrative platforms; curriculum development for both in-person and virtual classrooms; teacher management and training; and team leadership. I have lead development of cross-platform mobile applications that implement cutting-edge technologies including voice recognition, interactive video, and adaptive learning mechanics to personalize the learning experience.
The trajectory of my career from a Bachelor of Music to a teacher of English abroad to developing curriculum and then to leading a technology team to develop educational content appears disconnected on the surface, but it has been a seamless journey that has been threaded by my passion for learning. After university, I joined an AISEC program to work in Venezuela as an English teacher because I wanted an environment in which I could perfect my Spanish. Following the program, I moved to China as an ESL teacher because I wanted to challenge myself to learn one of the most difficult languages – Mandarin Chinese. While learning Chinese, I utilized many applications that contributed greatly to my success learning the language. These applications were engaging and useful, but I noticed that the videos, games, and social interactions in these applications were not nearly as engaging as they were with applications from the entertainment industry. That moment sparked a vision in me – to innovate curriculum that transforms people’s habits, motivating them to engage in daily learning as eagerly as they consume content from their favorite streaming service, video game, or social media platform.
I then dedicated my time to learning skills such as UI and UX development; Java, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Illustrator so that I could create my own curriculum that filled in the gaps I believed the curriculum market had. After amassing enough skills, I quit my teaching job and started developing curriculum for companies and developed my own ESL curriculum. Later, I received interest in my ESL program from a Fortune 500 company. After the company purchased it, I was put in charge of leading a team to develop interactive cartoons, games, story books, and more. Now, I am continuing my studies at Stanford University to further work towards achieving my life-long vision.
My principle of 'work smarter and harder' has helped me get recognized by world-class institutions and Fortune 500 companies.
